Excursion

Two of Three World Heritage Sites

The IWSEC 2024 excursion will take place on 18 September 2024, 13:00–18:00 (JST). The excursion includes visiting two of the three World Heritage Sites, Kinkaku-ji, Nijo Castle, and Byodoin Temple.

Please note that the excursion is divided into two courses. The course A will visit Kinkaku-ji and then Byodoin Temple, and the course B will visit Nijo Castle and then Byodoin Temple. A bus will take us from the conference venue (i.e., ICC Kyoto) to the sites, and a return bus will take us to the banquet venue (i.e., Hotel Granvia Kyoto).

Three World Heritage Sites

Kinkaku-ji

Marvel at the stunning Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion, a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto. Nijo Castle

Step into the grandeur of Nijo Castle in the heart of Kyoto. Explore its exquisite gardens, stunning Ninomaru Palace with its intricate murals and sliding-screen paintings, and rich history dating back to the Edo period. A visit to Nijo Castle offers a captivating glimpse into Japan's feudal past and architectural brilliance.

In particular, the Ninomaru Palace is designated as a national treasure as it is the only surviving palace complex of Japan's castle architecture. This excursion will take you inside the Ninomaru Palace, where you'll be immersed in the essence of the Edo period, with each room showing the evolution of Japanese art and culture.

Byodoin Temple
